We've all heard the saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," but does anyone know why? What's in an apple that is so powerful?
In apple pectin there is a subsance called galacturonic acid that can help diabetics have less of a need for insulin. However, fruits are one of the things diabetics often avoid due their affect on blood sugar. Eat the apple with some protein and it will have less of a negative effect on blood sugar. Eating two apples per day can lower your LDL cholesterol by 10%.
Studies done on liver cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer showed that the risk of contracting these diseases fell dramatically the more apples the test subjects consumed. That's enough to convince me that I need to eat at least one apple per day. In general, fruits should not be eaten with other classes of foods, but the apple is the one fruit with the appropriate enzymes to allow it to be eaten with other food groups. Let's increase our apple intake and increase our health. Mother nature is the best healer.
