What can the mouse teach us? These little animals are
often despised because they hide in our homes, eat our food, and leave
droppings. However, they have a unique perspective on life which
we should not discard. Though small and seemingly insignificant,
they have much to teach us.
Mice have the ability to squeeze into impossibly small spaces, find everything that is hidden between the walls, and see what others overlook. They get down to basics, and can see all the small details. Because they can only see what's right infront of their noses, they help us focus on what is imminent rather than what might happen out in the big bad future. Because they can squeeze into those small spaces, they show us that nothing is impossible. They ask very little in the vast scheme of things. A crumb of food that you or I would discard is a days food for them. They show us that the small things are important. Could our world survive without the many species of mice? They serve an important function, eating anything and everything available. Things that you and I would throw out, they willingly consume, and they are in turn consumed by other species. They are an important link, in many ways, between the past and future. The mouse teaches us not to underestimate anyone or anything, and to find value in all. He teaches us to go about our daily existence with joy, and that one can be unobtrusive and unnoticed while still playing an important role. The littlest grain of sand by the sea is just as important as the hugest boulder on the mountain top, a lesson the little mouse knows well. Are you aware of your own value, yet not obsessed with your importance? Maybe you are related to the mouse! |
