Black
pepper is a powerful antixdant, containing compounds such as eugenol,
kaempferol, myrcene, quercetin and rutin. It also contains
the substance piperine, unique to it, which enhances the
bioavailability of other compounds, making them more potent.
Piperine has the ability to inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines that are
produced by tumor cells, thereby inhibiting their growth and
progression. Several of the antioxidants in black pepper make it an
important protectant against the oxidative damage of saturated
fats. Black pepper has the capability of increasing the number of
white blood cells, thereby boosting the immune system. But's it's
bioavailability enhancement properties are what make it a
superstar. It makes Vitamin C, Vitamin E, glutathione,
superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase work
better. Generously adding it to your diet gives a huge boost to
your health. Black pepper also has the ability to reduce the
amount of gas in the intestinal tract, and also helps increase
hydrochloric acid in the stomach, thereby improving digestion.
Piperine also promotes nutrient absorption in the intestinal tract.,
and inhibits the growth of bacteria there as well. You may have
heard, as I had, that black pepper is indigestible and stays in the
intestinal tract, irritating it. In researching this article, I
have found no credible evidence that this is the case. So, add
it liberally to your food and enjoy!
