Where Did We Come From?

It is likely that at some time during your life, you have looked up at the sky filled with stars, or at the earth teeming with human beings and asked yourself where, when and how the first human being came into existence.  People have been asking themselves this question for centuries.

When you ask yourself where human beings came from, you must also ask yourself where and when the earth was created, since a planet capable of sustaining life had to exist before we could.

There are basically two beliefs about how the universe, the earth, and human beings came into existence:

1.  It all happened by accident.
2.  Someone created it.

You have the right to decide for yourself which one of these beliefs you think is correct.  On this website, I will give you some information which you can use to decide what you believe about this.

Most scientists now agree that it is a mathematical impossibility for the universe to have been created by accident.

There is a reason for this.

When you make a cake, you have a list of ingredients, and you must have all the ingredients or else the cake won't come out right.  If you don't put in baking powder, the cake won't rise.  If you don't put in flour, all you have is a bunch of liquid ingredients.  If you don't put in the eggs, water, or oil, then all you have is a pile of dry powdery stuff.  You have to put in ALL the ingredients for it to work.

If you don't have one of the ingredients, you go down to the store and buy it.

But in the beginning, what if all the ingredients necessary to make life weren't available?  You couldn't just run down to the store and get them.  There weren't any stores, or any human beings for that matter.  All the ingredients for life had to be present at the same time in order for a cell to be formed with DNA that would replicate itself.  That's what DNA is:  instructions for reproducing another cell.  In other words, DNA is the recipe.  It tells you what ingredients you need, how much, and how to combine them correctly.  If you don't have DNA, then you don't have the instructions for how to make life.

One of the ingredients in the DNA recipe is protein.  Proteins are needed to make life.  But here's the hard part.  Proteins are also needed to make DNA.  So it's like this:  you have to have protein to make DNA, but without DNA, there are no instructions for how to make the protein.  The only way you can create life is to have DNA and protein available at the same time.

But for years, scientists have said that protein was just sitting around in the environment, and all of a sudden it combined in such a way as to make DNA.  But it couldn't have done that without the instructions, or recipe for how to make it.  Think of it this way.   The instruction book about how to make paper is written on paper.  You can print out these books about how to make paper and give them to people so everyone will know how to make paper.  But you have to HAVE paper first in order to print the books.  But you can't make the paper until the instructions are printed so that people know how to make the paper.  See how it goes round and round?  It's like some scientists are saying that paper already existed before the instructions about how to make it were known.  To me, the only way this could happen is if SOMEBODY other than we humans on this planet DID know how to make it.

So, both protein and DNA had to exist at the same time in order for life to come into being.  That means SOMEBODY had to put both of them in the environment at the same time.  They didn't appear there by chance, because both of them are required in order for either one of them to be made.  Somebody had to know this in advance.

Who is that somebody?  Is it a person, or is it a thing?  Whoever or whatever it is, it is INTELLIGENT.
It planned and designed everything in our universe, our planet, our bodies, and our minds.

OK, then we have the problem of trying to discover who that person or thing is, and trying to learn about them.

Traditionally, people have created religious beliefs and rituals to help explain who or what this somebody is.  Many people call this somebody "God."  Later, we will discuss some of those different beliefs and rituals.  But right now, all you need to realize is that a powerful force or being created you, or helped you create yourself.  And anything that was created, was created for a reason.  You are NOT an accident.  You exist because somebody wanted you to exist.

That means you are important, and special.   You have a reason for being here.  You may not know what it is yet, but nevertheless, there IS a reason.

I also want to point out that you are special simply because you exist.  You are not special because you are smart or pretty or rich.   The fact that you are here means that somebody thought you were special just the way you are.  When you were being created, you were chosen to have the characteristics that you have because they are special also.  There are no mistakes in our universe.  Whatever exists, exists because it is just right, and the universe needed it.  The universe needed YOU.  So, no matter what anybody else believes about you or tells you, YOU know the truth.  Everything about you is just as it should be.  That doesn't mean we can't try and make ourselves better.  We can still try to get better grades, run faster and farther, be kinder and gentler.   But it also means that if we try as hard as we can, whatever we are at the end of the day is OK.
