  Hazelnuts- Antioxidant Content

Hazelnut is high in Vitamin E and Beta-sitosterol, as well as linoleic acid.  It helps lower cholesterol, helps prevent the destructin of red blood cells which helps prevent anemia.  The Beta-sitasterol helps prevent cancer, specifically breast and prostate cancers. Eating 25-30 grams daily (which is approximately 1 oz.) is enough to provide these protective effects. It also helps prevent cataracts in the aged.  It should not be roasted and should be stored in the refrigerator to keep the oils from becoming rancid.   It contains both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in abundance.  They are best stored in the shell as this protects them from deterioration.

These values can be found in the document "Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity of Selected Foods - 2007" USDA
