Pregnancy

There is no doubting that a woman's body goes through many changes when she is pregnant. The changes a woman goes through during pregnancy isn't limited to her mid-section. Pregnancy also brings about changes in a woman's skin, hair and nails.

Pregnancy can cause some women to have acne. Acne during pregnancy is not uncommon. It simply is a sign that the woman's hormones are changing. When a pregnant woman's hormones balance themselves back out, her skin will start to take on the healthy glow that is common with pregnancy. In the meantime, pregnant women can help to control acne eruptions by thoroughly cleaning their skin.

Other changes in skin could include changes in skin color. This is known as the pregnancy mask. This is marked by a pink or red flush to a pregnant woman's forehead or cheeks. Women who have this pregnancy mask are encouraged to stay out of the sun. This look will fade after labor.

Pregnancy promotes thicker and faster growing hair. Women who have thin hair are happy to see their hair thicken up. However, the drawback is that hair growth may arise in places it never appeared before such as the neck, chin and various other places. Additionally, it isn't just the hair on a woman's head that will become thicker. Pregnant women may have to shave their legs more often that they would like to keep hair growth on their legs under control. It isn't just hair that grows thicker and faster during pregnancy, either. Many pregnant women report that their naturally thin fingernails are starting to harden, strengthen and grow faster.

Changes in hair, skin and nails is common during pregnancy. This does not mean that you should not tell your doctor of the changes you are noticing. You should always keep your doctor abreast of the changes during pregnancy. This will ensure that nothing out of the ordinary is occuring.
